Meet Our Team

Rié (she/her)

I am glad you're here.

Taking the step to find a therapist that you can trust and feel open with can be a hard one. You can be assured that I will always meet you where you're at while offering a tailored approach to you and your unique circumstances. If you are someone who has been struggling with anxiety, over-thinking, relationships, sense of self, feeling stuck, life transitions, and/or the impacts of childhood adversity or trauma, I would love to meet you. I am an eclectic therapist drawing from a number of modalities to suit you, including DBT, CBT, Narrative, EFT, and EMDR.

I am a Registered Social Worker (RSW) as well as animal lover, photographer, outdoor adventurer, book reader, and the list goes on.

I went to school at the University of British Columbia where I received both my Bachelors and Masters degrees in social work with a focus in mental health.

I have been interested in mental health for as long as I can remember. My own experiences growing up as well as those with family and friends has fuelled my dreams of opening my own counselling practice that is open to all folks and all conversations. The Nook is a safe space for us to work through whatever brings you in.

I am currently accepting new clients age 17 and above or below 17 with previous discussion.

Hamidah (she/her)

Hi! My name is Hamidah and I am a registered clinical counsellor. I am an avid traveler, foodie, anime/manga buff, music lover, stand-up comedy and Asian drama enthusiast. I grew up in Singapore, which is a multi-cultural city-state, with influences from both western and eastern culture. Therefore, I am familiar with navigating a complex identity. I pursued my education, both undergraduate and graduate in the states, and moved to BC in 2020 in the midst of pandemic chaos. Hence, I am familiar with the stress and struggles of being an immigrant too.

I have been a counsellor for 7+ years and have worked with children, youth and adults across various mental health and substance use challenges. I am particularly interested in helping individuals navigate through life transitions, explore identity, tackle multi-cultural issues, and achieve self-acceptance. I believe in being a guide rather than an expert. I draw from a range of therapy modalities, such as CBT, DBT, ACT and Narrative Therapy.

If I sound like someone who might be a good fit for you, you can call for a free 15-min consult or book an initial assessment with me through our site. I look forward to meeting with you!

I am currently accepting new clients age 17 and above or below 17 with previous discussion.

Methods

We believe that human connection, safety, and relationship are at the core of the healing journey. In practice, We draw on the following methods, but tailor what works best for your unique story.

DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy)

Promotes understanding and acceptance of feelings by focusing on 4 areas: Mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance and emotion regulation.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

Explores core beliefs and the connection between thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

Narrative Therapy

Externalizes the issue and separates the problem from the person through story telling.

Brief Solution Focused Therapy

Focuses on the future and solutions to problems that might be impacting a person’s life.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) - Must book with Rié only

“Accessing and processing of traumatic memories and other adverse life experience to bring these to an adaptive resolution” (Shapiro, 2001)

EFIT (Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy)

Builds understanding around the emotion that may be contributing to behaviours.

Our Approach

We strongly believe a client-centered and culturally sensitive lens is crucial in practice. That means getting to know you and moving at a pace that feels safe and collaborative in order for you to explore emotions and possibilities for the future. We will be there alongside you as you work through life's challenges and take control of your story.

At The Nook Counselling, we believe in meeting you where you are at. We will never force our agenda of what I think you should be doing; that is a process that we can work on together.
